Pre-writing practice: Card Marking Station
This activity tray has been a favorite in our shelf since we introduced it at 3.5 yo.
I love all the options it includes in one setup and each one of them is great to work on those fine motor movements as a pre-cursor to writing. You can also evolve this tray as they learn how to write as well!
Your child can decide who they’re making cards for, which I encourage you to pass along to family and friends (mail if you’re far away.). You can also use when there’s a special occasion coming like a birthday. Although, for birthdays I do a similar setup on our table with birthday stickers and such.
Ok, so what does our card making tray include? Keep in mind, this is just our setup and you’re welcome to add/take out things.
Blank cards and envelopes. For a younger kiddo, you can simplify it by only including the cards.
Markers. The beauty of this tray is that we are putting everything your child needs in one place. This encourages concentration once they start working with it. I like these markers because of their size.
Stamps. I love the work that happens with stamps. In this picture we are using some animals from this set and this leaves one.
Stickers. I love to give stickers a purpose like this. Stickers are also easy to rotate to make this tray seasonal or give it a theme. Here are the ones we are using for fall.
That’s it. Remember to always model how to use it the first time your child is using any new activities.
